On the way to Asolo you will be surrounded by a magic atmosphere, dominated by a luxuriant vegetation suggesting smooth and pleasant rhythms.

It is one of Venetians’ favourite place and an important Roman town, the city preserves precious Middle Age and Renaissance vestiges, as well as the strong Venetian influence. It has always been a destination of very careful visitors, the small village appears today in all its charm and fascinated many renown men and women of letters and poets, from Pietro Bembo, who wrote “Gli Asolani” (Asolo inhabitants), to Robert Browning, author of “Asolando” (walking around Asolo), to Ernest Hemingway and Gian Francesco Malipiero, from Divina Eleonora Duse to the English traveller and writer Freya Stark.

The city art and history belong to the atmosphere that can be breathed along the streets, the arcades and the buildings, as well as in the Museum halls, which is the soul of Asolo cultural properties, and the medieval Fortress, city emblem, ideal place for choosing one of the a hundred horizons that Giosué Carducci attributed to Asolo.

Walking in Asolo historic centre, the pleasure of culture reminds the good cuisine taste, which is alive in the old taverns and coffee places, where you can taste the extraordinary typical products. It is part of important tours, as the Wine City route, dedicated to the doc wine production of “Montello and Colli Asolani”, and of the Esagono project (Hexagon project), putting together Bassano, Marostica, Cittadella, Castelfranco Veneto and Possagno for the promotion of an extraordinarily artistic and environmental rich land, Asolo is in the network centre of historical and naturalistic itineraries to be covered by foot or bike, also suitable for horse riding, where the constant pleasant and unique landscape overlooks the piedmont stripe.

The museum is closely intersected with the city open spaces, receiving a wide archaeological section, the picture gallery, the Cathedral treasure and a hall dedicated to Asolo important people, from the Queen Caterina Cornaro, to the English traveller and writer Freya Stark, up to Eleonora Duse who lived here and here wanted to be buried.

The Fortress

Overlooking the historical centre, the medieval Fortress dominates the city from Mount Ricco peak, an ideal place from where you can enjoy a matchless view taking in the whole piedmont stripe at a glance.

Opening hours: Sunday – April/October 10-19hrs (July and August closed from 12 to 15) November/March 10-17hrs

Caterina Cornaro’s Castle

Ancient royal palace that belonged to Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus and Lady of Asolo, the ancient building, with a beautiful view on the historical centre, receives today the Theatre dedicated to Eleonora Duse.

Roman waterworks

La Bot Very precious vestiges of Roman ancient times used for the baths, La Bot is still today almost intact. It is still working and supplies water also to Fontana Maggiore (the Main Fountain), the starting piece can be visited at Brugnoli Square.
